Before You Snicker Or Condemn

Many Chicago Bears and Sooner fans will have by now seen the articles from earlier in the week about Tommie Harris' arrest for allegedly urinating in public & trying to start a fight outside bar. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/e

Unfortunately, Tommie was one of those college stars who left college before graduation and never fulfilled his potential in the NFL. Much of his career with the Bears was marred by injury. During the last few years I also recalls rumblings of clashes with the coach. Then, there came the itinerancy from team to team which ended with his being cut before this season started.

You might be thinking that I am saying all of this by way of offering an excuse for Tommie. I'm not because there is a much better excuse. Tommie got married on New Year's Day of this year to his long-time girlfriend and the mother of his two young children. Ashley died very suddenly & tragically at 29 of a brain aneurysm less than two months later! http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/

Who knows how any of us might react under those circumstances. Before you snicker at or condemn his actions, say a prayer for him and his children.

God Is In His Heaven

The universe, ladies & gentlemen, I'm happy to report, is spinning as it should. OU is #1 in the pre-season Coach's poll, FSU is behind us - memo, to self, be sure to visit Son in Tallahassee come mid-Sept. - & Texas is waaaaaaaaay back there at 23 or 24. Yep, God is in His heaven - watching OU football, of course - & all is right with the world.
